WHO I AM
My journey to becoming a therapist began with my own personal therapy which I started in college and continued throughout my 20s. I had struggled with self-doubt and anxiety since middle school and experienced trauma from a major surgery when I was 16. I felt like I shouldn’t be anxious or depressed since I had loving parents who are still together today. I learned in my own therapy how more subtle wounds from childhood can add up to have a big influence on who we are today, and through my own work have been able to heal from these wounds. I aim to help others ease their suffering as I have eased mine.
Before I became a therapist I worked as a professional musician and guitarist specializing in jazz, and I continue to play music today. I find a lot of similarities between jazz and therapy, as both involve improvising, being present and aware, listening, and connecting to the audience or client.
I obtained my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and School Counseling from California State University Northridge (CSUN), graduating in 2012. I worked as a school counselor in K-12 education, an academic counselor at UCLA, and worked as a therapist in various treatment centers for adolescents and adults with mental health and addiction issues. I got my LMFT license in 2019 and soon after completed my training in EMDR through the Institute for Creative Mindfulness, where I am working toward EMDR certification.
