HOW I WORK
I use what I call a past, present, and future approach:
Past: The way we perceive and experience the present is influenced by the past, especially our childhood, and I help you gain insight into this in a way that helps validate your current symptoms. Most of us have wounds from childhood, some are considered “big” or traumatic wounds, others “small” or subtle. One of the ways I can help you heal is by using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an effective and efficient method for treating trauma. More info on EMDR HERE.
Present: I help you build a toolbox of coping skills to manage difficult emotions and anxiety in your present life, using EMDR techniques, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) therapy techniques. I help you become more aware and present in the moment using mindfulness and meditation, and to be more kind to yourself.
Future: I help you instill hope for the future by helping you set goals, exploring and building on strengths, and increasing awareness of the positive.
My clients tell me that I have an unassuming approach, I’m honest and direct, that it feels good to talk to someone who doesn’t minimize their problems, and that I really listen and help them feel understood. I have a kindness and warmth that allows them to feel supported, while at the same time facilitating growth and healing.
I like to think of therapy as a journey similar to climbing a mountain, with the therapist as a “sherpa” or guide who will accompany and help you on this journey. I feel honored and privileged to be able to accompany my clients on this journey, and I look forward to working with you.
